Rome High School football might have its next great quarterback from the state of Georgia waiting in the wings as a rising freshman and his name is Zack Parker.
The last Rome QB to play at the FBS level was Knox Kadum, who graduated in 2019 and played at McNeese and Virginia Tech. While the Wolves have had some talented quarterbacks since the 2018 season, most notably Reece Fountain, a three-year starter now at East Tennessee State, they have not had the star power that other Northwest Georgia programs have produced in recent years.
That looks set to change with the arrival of Parker.
He is a high-end prospect who, before even stepping onto a high school field, has already received his first FBS offer from Memphis. In addition to Memphis, he is drawing interest from some of the top college programs in the country. He has seven visits scheduled for this spring, including Georgia, Texas A&M, Auburn, South Carolina, UAB, Georgia Tech, and South Florida.
Born to Compete named him the top eighth-grade quarterback in the state over the weekend, and when you watch his film, it’s easy to see why. He displays mobility but does not overly rely on it to be successful. His ability to maneuver within the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield may be his best trait. He never gives up on making a throw until he is either on the ground or past the line of scrimmage, a skill that is nearly impossible to teach. He plays the position instinctually while also possessing a strong arm and already showing great anticipation and touch on his passes.
He is already physically capable of playing at the college level at 6 feet tall and 170-pounds and will continue to grow.
Parker has the potential to be the next great young quarterback to emerge from Northwest Georgia. Last year, sophomore Trace Hawkins led Calhoun to a state title and made himself a national name. Parker will have the same opportunity in the coming years.
