Turnovers do in Panthers, lose opener 30-9

On Friday, the football team lost for the first time ever to Collins Hill 30-9. The offense suffered through three first-half turnovers. Christian Newsome scored a 3-yard touchdown late in the game for the Panthers and Auburn-bound running back Brandon Jacobs rushed for 82 yards on 15 carries. This Friday, Chattahoochee will visit Parkview for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. … The softball team started off hot in the South Gwinnett tournament, easily winning its first two games on the schedule against Union Grove and Monroe Area. The team, however, ran into a bit of trouble with Evans and GAC. The girls managed a 4-2 win over Ola to wrap up the competition and improve to 3-2. The team then defeated regional rival Brookwood 3-1, as Desirae Thomas struck out three batters for the win while Jennifer Wormley was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. …The volleyball team split its season opening doubleheader with a three-set win over Holy Innocents’, but lost a three-set tilt with Decatur. Libby Lukens had 45 assists and Audrey Hipple had 11 kills in the two contests.
