Cross Creek’s boys have yet to lose a contest to an in-state team this season and the No. 2-ranked Razorbacks are primed for the Region 4 tournament and the postseason.
The team has two state championships – 2021 and 2022 – both Class 3A titles and if this season’s trend continues, Cross Creek could be favorited to secure the team’s third championship.
The program’s only loss this season was against River Bluff (SC) 65-64 in overtime on November 27. Cross Creek (21-1, 12-0) has won 17 games since the loss and is outscoring opponents 1,439 to 1,031 heading into Tuesday’s home game against West Laurens.
The Razorbacks will close the pre-region regular season with back-to-back away Region 4 games — Friday at Baldwin and Saturday at Harlem. The Baldwin game might be the most competitive after Cross Creek narrowly beat the Braves 45-42 on Dec. 13.
It’s worth noting that most region tournaments will begin play throughout next week. Each of the classification’s eight regions must report their respective playoff seedings to the GHSA by Feb. 15 for the state championship tournament which begins Feb. 18.

Around the class, boys – Monroe leads the Region 1 standings at 8-1 ahead of Westover (5-2), Dougherty (6-3) and Peach County (3-4). … In Region 2, Sandy Creek is 14-0 ahead of Fayette County (9-4), Upson-Lee (9-5), LaGrange (8-6) and Troup (7-6). … Calvary Day (10-0) leads Region 3 but will compete in the 1A-3A Private bracket. Windsor Forest (8-2), Liberty County (7-3), Beach (6-4) and Long County (6-5) are the league’s best. … In Region 4, Cross Creek is 12-0 and leading ahead of Baldwin (11-2) and Westside-Augusta (11-3). West Laurens is 7-7 and Harlem is 7-8 in league play. … Cedar Grove tops Region 5 at 12-0 with Luella (10-2) and Douglass (9-3) behind the Saints. … Pickens is unbeaten and atop Region 6 at 12-0 ahead of Class 1A-3A Private GAC (9-3), Lumpkin County (9-3) and North Hall (6-6). … In Region 7, Adairsville (9-1) and Calhoun (8-1) each are one-loss teams ahead of Northwest Whitfield (6-4). … East Hall and Jefferson (7-1) are tied atop the Region 8 standings with Cherokee Bluff at 6-2.
