Eagles upset perennial power, Parkview 30-9

The Eagles football program was breaking in a new coach in Billy Wells for the first game last Friday, but the team came through with a resounding 30-9 home victory over Parkview in a non-region matchup. The season-opening victory comes after a disappointing 2007 campaign in which the team went 4-6 and experienced a rare playoff miss. Eagles quarterback Michael Box got the scoring started with a 70-yard touchdown pass to receiver Dustin Hallmark, and Collins Hill held a 14-3 lead at halftime. A Parkview fumble in the second half led to an Eagles score, and the game ended on a safety of Parkview quarterback Clayton Wilkin. The team has one more non-region game—at Dacula this Friday—before jumping into league play. … The No. 4-ranked (GACA coaches poll) softball team improved its record to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the region with a 10-1 victory over Chattahoochee last Thursday. … The cross country teams placed first (girls) and second (boys) at The Stage Races in Suwanee on Aug. 23. Cloe Whitworth, Sydney Williams, Vickie Winslow and Allison McGinty won stages for the girls.
