Knights debut spread offense in loss to Sunshine state foe

The football team opened its 2008 campaign against Daytona Mainland (Fla.) in the first game of the Progressive Football Challenge hosted by North Gwinnett High School. The team was shorthanded for the game due to the suspension of three players and the Knights lost 34-14 to a solid Buccaneers team on Friday evening. Working out of the new spread offense that Central has integrated this season, junior quarterback Steven Bott finished 9-of-19 passing with 76 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The next football game will be against Mill Creek (1-0) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. … The softball team had a tough week, including a loss to defending Class 2A state champs Buford 9-1. The black-and-gold will try to turn things around this week in their first two regional games against Brookwood and Grayson. … The volleyball team picked up a win over North Gwinnett on Thursday 25-23, 25-20. The Wolves will face Norcross and Parkview on Thursday with four games in the North Cobb-Cobb-Gwinnett Challenge coming up on Saturday.
