Mustangs get off on right hoof with win over Pope

“Our number one priority is to make the playoffs,” said head coach Scott Jones. It certainly looked like it was a main priority on Friday, as the Mustangs took care of business 38-21 against Pope. Clayton Whitlock had an incredible game, as he rushed for 179 yards and three rushing touchdowns. “The line was blocking for me and I just hit the holes as hard as I could,” Whitlock said. Things won’t be easy against South Cobb next week, however. “This is a very tough region. Every game will be a war,” Jones said. … After an impressive 50-7 record and a runner-up finish in the state, the girls volleyball team had high expectations for 2008. The year hasn’t gone the Mustangs’ way, however, as they are 8-6 so far. …The softball team has picked things up of late after starting the season off at 1-4. Their team was also in action on Tuesday, though results were not available at press time. Their next contest is scheduled for Thursday when the Mustangs travel to Woodstock. … The cross country team will start their season running at The Clara Bowl at Berry College.
