Hines leads Hoyas to huge upset in first game at helm

The football team is without head coach Bruce Cobleigh for the first time in 17 years, as he stepped down before the season. First-year head coach David Hines has taken over a team that went 9-3 in 2007, and made it to the second round of the state playoffs. Ten starters return from last year’s squad. Only three of the starters return on defense and they will be very inexperienced in the secondary. Harrison didn’t have any problem in their opener against Peachtree Ridge, however, winning 13-3. The following weeks include matchups with North Cobb and South Cobb. … In other sports action at Harrison, the fast-pitch softball team has started quickly with wins over Apalachee (6-2) and Norcross (7-6), respectively. They will start region play next week. The boys cross country team is ranked 10th in Class 5A. The girl’s volleyball team is 3-4 in early season action so far. They will look to rebound against Creekview and Southeast Whitefield next week.
