Cook era starts off with loss to South Cobb

The football team has a new head coach in Shawn Campbell and was looking to give him his first win of the 2008 season against South Cobb. The Spartans got the ball rolling early with a Josh Bolden 2-yard touchdown run, but the Eagles running game got going with two touchdown runs in the second quarter. The Eagles went on to defeat the Spartans 24-19. The Spartans outran the Eagles with 202 yards on the ground and Bolden racked up half of those yards with 116. But the Spartans only recorded 64 yards passing and also committed nine penalties. Campbell will try to get their first win of the season when they take on Milton on Friday at 7:30 p.m. … The softball team is still searching for its first win of the year, as the Lady Spartans lost to Kell 8-0 last week. They will take on Berkmar on Wednesday. … The volleyball team lost to East Paulding last week, but even with the loss, the Lady Spartans have won three out their last five matches. They go up against Sprayberry and Wheeler on Thursday.
