Another week is in the books and here are some performances in high school football this past week in the peach state.
Starr’s Mill QB Logan Inagawa- What an epic region showdown between Central-Carrollton and Starr’s Mill. Inagawa threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Lincoln DeLaere to take a 38-28 lead with less than five minutes in the game to give Starr’s Mill much-needed breathing room. He finished the game with 279 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns. Inagawa was 8-10 for 150 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Starr’s Mill is now 7-0 and Inagawa has 20 total touchdowns this season and has been a key piece in the team’s undefeated start. He always comes up in the clutch moments and makes plays when his team needs it the most.
Thomas County Central QB Jaylen Johnson- Johnson had his best game of the season in a 61-10 win against Veterans. He was 17-28 for 407 yards and five touchdowns. It was a career night for the junior quarterback who had a big bounce-back game after falling to Lee County the week prior. Johnson set career highs in yards and touchdowns against Veterans. Johnson has thrown for 1,102 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.
Jefferson QB Gavin Markey- Jefferson pulled off a massive win against Monroe Area on Friday night and Gavin Markey was a big reason why. The senior quarterback rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and was 6-of-12 passing for 131 yards and two TDs. He had 334 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns. Markey is the leading rusher for the Dragons with 491 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. Through the air, he has thrown for 891 yards and seven touchdowns. Jefferson is 5-2 and undefeated in region play. The senior quarterback has the Dragons in contention for a state championship this season.
North Gwinnett RB Tommy LaFayette- We are probably going to have to start calling him Mr. Consistent because that is what LaFayette has been all season for the Bulldogs. He had another great showing against Peachtree Ridge. He rushed for 171 yards and a touchdown. He has now hit the 500-yard rushing mark this season and it has been tough for opposing defenses to slow down. LaFayette has also made the Mr. Georgia watchlist several times this season and continues to make headlines with his outstanding play.
Commerce RB Jaiden Daniels- Daniels continues to make headway and has established himself as one of the best running backs in the state. In one word he is explosive and tough to bring down. In a win against ranked Rabun County, he rushed for 217 yards and 10 touchdowns on 10 carries. I am not sure what his season stats are but he has to be close to approaching 1,000 yards on the ground. I think what is most impressive about Daniels is that he is an unselfish guy. When their quarterback went down this season, Daniels stepped right in and the offense didn’t miss a beat. The East Tennessee State commit has been a problem week in and week out as he churns out magnificent performances.
Dodge County ATH Jerimiah Burns- The sophomore sensation had 310 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns on just six touchdowns in a 35-24 win against Washington County. Burns had kickoff return touchdowns of 90 and 91 yards, and an interception return for 60 yards. He also had a 69-yard touchdown reception late in the game to help set up a game-winning score. This season he has 225 yards receiving and five touchdowns. He is averaging 17.3 yards per catch and his longest catch came from 51 yards. Dodge County is 7-0 and their dynamic playmaker has been pivotal in the hot start.
Manchester ATH Qua Cooper- Cooper was all over the field and made a big impact against Bowdon in a huge game that affected the rankings. Offensively, Cooper ran for 139 yards. Defensively he had 11 tackles and a forced fumble. For the season he has 254 rushing yards and three touchdowns and also had two forced fumbles on defense. Manchester have a number of standout players including Justus Terry and Darrius Favors, but Cooper is a staple on both sides of the ball for Manchester.
Hebron Christian RB Devon Caldwell- In a win against Hart County, Caldwell rushed for 200 yards and four touchdowns. It was his best game of the season and the first time he had surpassed the 200-yard mark in a game. Prior to the win against Hart County, Caldwell had rushed for 540 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Caldwell is another weapon in the offense that has Jarvis Mauthrin, Gerritt Kemp, and several other noteworthy playmakers.
Northeast Macon DB Kortnei Williams- Williams leads the state in interceptions and added another to his total on Friday night. Williams is only a sophomore and has recorded a total of eight interceptions. The most impressive part of his game is his technique and ball skills. He has a nose for the football and constantly makes plays on the ball. With his performance this season, his recruiting could potentially blow up in the spring as more college coaches watch his tape and what he can do on the gridiron.
Carver-Columbus EDGE Tristan Givens- Givens recorded three sacks in the win against Shaw this past weekend. Givens is currently rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 9 EDGE in the country, the No. 13 player in Georgia, and the No. 89 player nationally in the 2026 class, per 247Sports Composite. Carver-Columbus is having an outstanding season this year and Givens has been making his impact felt on the defensive side of the ball.
