Five in-state players receive Georgia Tech football offers after the Brent Key / Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic 7-on-7 Tournament

The second annual Brent Key / Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic 7-on-7 Tournament at Georgia Tech over the last two weeks gave spectators their first glimpse of a handful of high school football programs around the state of Georgia for the 2024 season. The tournament featured 102 teams, the most-ever for a Corky Kell 7-on-7 to date. With the tournament continuing to grow and the more teams signing up to participate, the talent level will continue to rise as well.

After his first full season as the head coach of the Georgia Tech football program, Brent Key has established a foundation for rebuilding a premier college football program in Atlanta. In constructing his program, there is no better place to start than in state, where some of the best high school football talent in the country call home.

The Georgia Tech football staff took advantage of the opportunity at hand with the talent present at the tournament by offering five players from in-state schools.

The five players earning offers after the 7-on-7s were — North Gwinnett sophomore linebacker Jake Godfree, North Oconee senior wide receiver Landon Roldan (offered the week before the tournament), Greater Atlanta Christian junior defensive end Dre Quinn, Walton sophomore wide receiver Alexander Ward, Douglas County junior wide receiver Adam Carter and Milton sophomore tight end Grant Haviland.

Four offensive players and two defensive players rounded out the offers from the 7-on-7 camp including offers for three underclassmen for the Yellow Jackets to get on these players’ radars early into their recruiting.

Standing at six feet tall and 200-pounds, Godfree is the son of North Gwinnett head coach Eric Godfree. Going into his sophomore season, the linebacker has obtained over 10 offers from major programs such as Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida State and now Georgia Tech after his performance at the tournament earlier this month. The rising sophomore totaled 78 tackles a season ago, including seven for a loss in 12 games played.

 

Although he picked up a Georgia Tech offer a little over a week ago, the 3-star receiver out of North Oconee is ‘crystal-balled’ to the University of Georgia earlier in the week according to 247Sports. Roldan holds offers from both Georgia and Georgia Tech as well as Army, Navy, Air Force and Vanderbilt as well. Going into his senior season, Roldan has more opportunities to not only earn more offers, but show coaches his versatility and playmaking ability from the wide receiver position.

 

Quinn, the second defensive player that Georgia Tech extended an offer to during this year’s 7-on-7 tournament, did not get much playing time as a sophomore but is poised to make a name for himself in his junior season. After registering 11 tackles a year ago, Quinn’s 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame makes him an intriguing prospect for Georgia Tech to monitor over the next couple of years before he is ready to commit.

 

An intriguing prospect for the Walton Raiders going into his sophomore season, Ward stands with good size at 6-foot-1, 174-pounds and has picked up traction on the recruiting trail. He recently earned offers from both Alabama and Georgia along with an offer from Georgia Tech during the 7-on-7s at the Yellow Jackets’ facility. Ward contributed to Walton last year by getting some snaps on offense and returning a handful of kickoffs on special teams, averaging close to 23 yards per return. Though he is still young, expect Ward’s playing time and role in the Walton offense to expand going into his second season in the program.

 

Douglas County wideout Adam Carter added his name to the list of offers Georgia Tech handed out last week after he was offered by the Yellow Jackets on the second day of the tournament. The offer from Georgia Tech is Carter’s fifth offer from an ACC school including North Carolina State, Boston College, Louisville, Cal and now Georgia Tech. Outside of the ACC, Carter has received offers from Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Marshall, Memphis and also earned himself an offer from Oklahoma. This upcoming season, Carter will be a member of a talented Douglas County receiving corps alongside 5-star Cedar Grove transfer junior Devin Carter and 4-star wideout junior Aaron Gregory. This trio for the Tigers will be a problem for opposing defenses as this will be their first season together with the possibility of them all returning to Douglas County the following season with eligibility remaining.

 

Another piece on an already talented Milton roster, Haviland is going into his sophomore year as the No. 3 tight end on the Eagles depth chart, backing up Georgia-commit 4-star Ethan Barbour and 3-star Auburn-commit Ryan Ghea. At 6-foot-4, 215-pounds, Haviland already possesses the size to make an impact for Milton this upcoming season. The sophomore tight end holds offers from South Carolina and Cincinnati and two offers from ACC schools, Florida State and Georgia Tech, which he picked up from the Yellow Jackets on the second day of the 7-on-7 tournament. Along with the explosive weapons Milton has on its roster with Barbour, Ghea, 4-star wide receiver C.J. Wiley, and Tristen Payne led by University of Miami-commit quarterback Luke Nickel, Haviland will have another year to gain experience by practicing and learning from some of the best players at his position in the state who just so happen to be on his team as well.

 

 

These five players competed at the third annual Brent Key / Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic 7-on-7 Tournament and earned these offers from Coach Key’s staff, making a name for themselves during the tournament. Although these six were just a portion of the immense amount of talent at Georgia Tech’s football facilities over the last two weeks, the Georgia Tech staff capitalized on the chance to get on the player’s radars early into most of their recruitment.

Brent Key and his staff have made huge strides in their recruiting from his first full season last year to now. In 2024, Georgia Tech held the 33rd-ranked recruiting class and improved tremendously in his second full season, as they currently have the No. 18 ranked class in 2025. Although the numbers could be subject to change, this is the Yellow Jackets highest-rated football recruiting class in the last 20 years since they had the 15th-ranked class in 2007.
