Woodward loses first game in 3A, 32-21

The War Eagles lost a 32-21 football game at Lovett on Friday night. Woodward is trying to bounce back from a disappointing 4-6 season in 2007. The school now competes in Region 4 Class 3A after being in Class 4A the past few years. Head coach Mark Miller’s squad will travel to Class 2A Westminster next week for a game at 7:30 p.m. The first home game will be at Graham Hixon Field at Colquitt Stadium on Friday, Oct. 3rd against Spalding. … The softball team will move on this season after longtime coach Nikki Law retired in the offseason. She has been replaced by the very capable Pam Donnelly. The team has struggled thus far, starting the season 1-8. Their next game will be Wednesday against Woodland. … The volleyball team has started the season out 3-0. The reigning region champions have defeated Decatur, Lovett, Starr’s Mill and Parkview thus far. Results from a weekend invitational in Huntsville were not available at press time. The team plays at Class 2A’s No. 2 Wesleyan Thursday against Pope and Wesleyan.
