Georgia Bulldogs third basemen and The Walker School alumni Charlie Condon named SEC Player of the Year and First Team All-SEC

Georgia Bulldogs third baseman and The Walker School alumni, Charlie Condon has been honored with numerous awards during his stellar sophomore season with the Bulldogs baseball program.

The SEC announced their regular season awards and their All-SEC teams on Monday afternoon with Condon taking home SEC Player of the Year and also being named on the SEC Baseball first team at third base.

The projected No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 MLB Draft has posted a nation-leading .451 batting average this season along with  35 home runs (second-most in SEC single season history), 75 RBIs and 93 hits on the season as he is going into the SEC Tournament on a 24-game hit streak.

In his outstanding sophomore season in Athens, Condon broke multiple records such as most home runs in a season in NCAA history in the BBCOR era (bat-ball coefficient restitution). Along with the NCAA home run record, Condon broke Georgia baseball single-season and all-time home run record in the same swing this season.

Both of the school records Condon broke were held by the last Georgia Bulldog to take home the SEC Player of the Year honors in Gordon Beckham in 2008.

In his two years in the Georgia baseball program, the Atlanta-native has accounted for 60 home runs and 174 hits while batting .418 at the plate in his college career.

In high school, Condon was a four year starter for The Walker School hit .432 and had OPS of 1.310 as a senior. In his senior season, Condon played a huge role for the Wolverines, helping them make the Sweet 16 as he led the team in hits, doubles and RBIs.

Setting records is nothing new for Condon as last year in his first year of college baseball, he set the SEC Freshman Home Run record and hit a home run in every single SEC series.

Condon will look to continue his outstanding season as the Bulldogs are the No. 6-seed in the 2024 SEC Baseball Tournament where they will face No. 11-seed LSU where the winner will face No.3-seed Kentucky who is currently ranked as the No. 2 team in the country.
