Spartans end streak, win first game since 2005

Stuck in a losing streak since 2005, the football team finally came out with a win. The team faced off against Cross Keys last Saturday and came out triumphant by a score of 37-12. John Dixon started the game off by scoring the first touchdown of the season. Dixon had a total of two rushing touchdowns for the game. Senior Ricky Lang had an incredible game defensively, scoring on an interception return in the first quarter. In the second, the Spartans pulled even further ahead with an interception return for a touchdown by Quinton Hillary and a 59-yard run by Robert Starks. Assistant Coach Elliot O’Neal commented, “We liked the leadership the seniors showed, and this win is a very big stepping stone for us.” The Spartans will play Chamblee (1-0) Friday at home (7:30 p.m.). … The softball team beat Tucker 12-0 last Thursday. The Spartan pitchers gave up no hits. The team also played Roswell last Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time. The team hosts Southwest Dekalb on Wednesday and then travels to Miller Grove on Thursday and Forsyth Central on Tuesday (all at 5 p.m.).
