Astros win big, set up battle of unbeatens

The Astros started the season with a 43-14 loss to Chamblee on Friday night. The team will travel to Mays on Saturday for an 8 p.m. kickoff. Last week, Mays impressively defeated Carver, Atlanta by a score of 37-19. Douglass has done a great job recently to get back to the glory days of the 90’s, when Jamal Lewis and Cosey Coleman led the team to the playoffs on a regular basis. Last year was a great start in getting back to the success of that era, as the Astros went 8-4 and made the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. The Astros have not had a losing season since 2001. … The softball team is now 1-2 after dropping two in a row to Greenbrier and Newton. The Lady Astros started the year off in promising fashion, defeating LaGrange 4-1 on Aug 15. Results of Tuesday’s game at Washington were not available at press time. The next game is Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Carver. … The cross country squad begins the season at the The Mill Run meet in Douglasville.
