No. 1 volleyball seperates from the pack; sweeps No. 2 Wesleyan

The No. 10-ranked Lions defeated Woodward Academy 32-21 Friday night at home. It was the first meeting between the two distinguished Atlanta schools since a 21-0 Woodward victory in 2004. Mike Muschamp’s Lions are coming off a run to the state finals in 2007, which came on the heels of a state semifinal appearance in 2006. The Lions head to Callaway on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tilt. … The softball team is 6-1 and is coming off three-straight wins. The team has defeated West Laurens, Walker, and Centennial consecutively after an Aug. 16 loss to Class 5A Valdosta. Results of Tuesday’s game against Pace Academy were not available at press time. The Lady Cats play at Riverwood on Wednesday at 5 p.m. … The No. 1-ranked volleyball team is 10-3 and currently on a four-game winning streak. In what was probably the biggest volleyball match in Class 2A thus far in the season, the Lady Lions defeated No. 2-ranked Wesleyan 2-0 on Aug. 23. The team plays at Kell on Thursday against Kell and Chattahoochee.
