Former Centennial High School and Georgia Bulldog pitcher Jonathan Cannon’s dreams will come to fruition today as the Alpharetta-native will get his first taste of professional baseball starting on the mound for the Chicago White Sox.
In high school, Cannon was a premier player on the field, playing both ways for the Knights. In his senior year, Cannon’s pitching record was 5-2 and accumulated a 1.57 ERA and 59 strikeouts.
Though he was dominating on the mound in the high school ranks, he was no stranger to making plays at the plate as well having a batting average of .369, an OBP of .466 including four home runs, 11 doubles and two triples.
For his prolific play as a senior, Cannon was selected as a part of the state of Georgia’s All-State team.
Cannon committed to play his collegiate baseball at the University of Georgia where he continued to excel while pitching for the Bulldogs.

Cannon appeared in 31 games and started in 25 of them. He played in a total of 153 innings and accumulated close to 140 strikeouts and 30 walks. He finished his collegiate career with a 3.71 ERA and a pitching record of 16-6.
Cannon played three seasons of college baseball and in his final year as a junior, he led Georgia with 13 starts and pitched in 78 innings, totaling close to 70 strikeouts and a little over 10 walks. He was selected to the First-Team All-SEC after eight starts against SEC-opponents, going 6-2 in those games.
His play in his final season earned him awards such as First-Team All-SEC, Third-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA and was named to the Southeast All-Region First-Team by ABCA/Rawlings. He was also named as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy (National College Baseball Player of the Year) and was on the midseason list for the Golden Spikes Award.
After a stellar career at Georgia, Cannon was selected in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft to the Chicago White Sox.
Since getting drafted, Cannon has been involved in the White Sox organization with their minor league affiliates such as the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, Winston-Salem Dash, Birmingham Barons and most recently the Charlotte Knights.
For Charlotte, Cannon has appeared in just two games this season, pitching in a total of 9.2 innings and has 11 strikeouts on the year.
Cannon will make his MLB debut for the Chicago White Sox today at 2:10 p.m. in the first game of their doubleheader today, pitching against the Kansas City Royals.
