Guarcello leads Raiders to victory with pick-six

The football team beat South Forsyth 24-14 last Friday in its first game of the season. Senior inside linebacker Anthony Guarcello made his presence felt in the beginning of the third quarter with an interception returned for a touchdown. The Raiders pulled away in the fourth quarter with a long touchdown pass to wide receiver Michael Bennett, bringing the score to 21-7. The Raiders will travel to Wheeler this Friday (7:30 p.m.). … The volleyball team beat Mt. Pisgah 2-1 (25-9, 19-25, 25-5) and Forsyth Central 2-0 (25-18, 25-22) last Thursday. In head coach Houghton’s eyes, “The girls were just very excited and talkative, which I think led to them playing their best throughout the matches.” Their next game is Tuesday against South Forsyth at home (6 p.m.). … The softball team lost to Lassiter last Thursday by a score of 8-1, giving the Raiders an overall record of 2-5. The team also played North Forsyth at home on Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time. The team will play Campbell at home on Thursday and then travel to Wheeler next Tuesday (both at 5:55 p.m.).
