The football team was off last week because it took part in the Kell Classic on Aug. 23. The team deserved the break, however, as the Eagles came up with a huge win over Starr’s Mill 47-24. Tailback Ryan Boykin deserves a rest as well after rushing for 277 yards and four touchdowns. Etowah will look to carry that momentum as they come back home to take on McEachern on Friday. … The softball team is off to a good start to its season, as the Lady Eagles have a 6-3 record at press time. This is a good sign for a team with mostly juniors. With an 18-11 record last year, they will look to better that record and go deeper into the playoffs. They will face Lassiter on Wednesday and Harrison on Thursday. … The volleyball team is also off to a hot start, having won their last five matches at press time. Unlike the softball team, they have a solid group of seniors and will try to lead the Lady Eagles to a state title. They face South Paulding, South Cobb and Hillgrove on Thursday.
