Grizzlies step up in classification for football opener

The football team is starting their 2008 season—which will be the first full region slate now that the school has a senior class—a little bit later than most teams, with the first game this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Sequoyah. The Grizzlies find themselves in Region 7A-AAA after spending their first seasons in Class 2A, and will be tested early with the road game at Sequoyah, a Class 4A team that took out Class 5A Cherokee in its opener. Returning for the Grizzlies are offensive lineman Nathan Riddle, quarterback Collins Wold, running back Hunter Livingston (a 1,000-yard rusher last season) and linebacker Frankie Nicholson (the leading tackler from last year). … The volleyball team has participated in two tournaments thus far and has excelled in each of them. In the Sequoyah Classic Tournament, the Lady Grizzlies went 2-2, defeating Cass and Fayette County and losing to volleyball powerhouses Pope and Milton. In the Forsyth County Tournament, the team went 4-1, losing only to Class 5A North Gwinnett in the second match with the school.
