We lost a tough one to North Cobb this past week. However, while we didn’t play very smart, we played hard and didn’t quit, which as a coach is great to see. Many people have asked why I decided to schedule tough games like North Cobb and Carrollton for two of our out of region games. The answer is simple: In my opinion, in order to build a program, be a consistent playoff participant, and compete for region championships, you need to take advantage of “games that don’t matter,” and play teams that are going to make you better, even if it means losing a game or two. We are a better football team today after losing a tough game against North Cobb then if we would have played a lesser team and won.
This week we travel to Carrollton, which will be one of our toughest games of the season. Carrollton reminds me of a Region 1AAAAA team. They are big, fast, physical, and very well coached. Carrollton is one of the best programs in the state, regardless of classification, and for some of our kids, their stadium will be the biggest they ever play in. It will be a great test for us, and the experience will only help us as we attempt to make the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
