You may hear the name Tucker Lions and think to yourself that the name sounds familiar. Well, the Lions competed and won the preseason Sheriff’s Cup Invitational in August that featured Grayson, McEachern, Cambridge and Tucker. Tucker accomplished something even bigger this past Saturday in Acworth. Last year, the Lions came up just short against the Chattanooga Ravens but this time it was different. They had the goal of getting back to the big game and finishing the deal coming into the season.
“We are looking to settle for nothing else. We want to finish what we didn’t finish last year. We are on the right path. We have a lot of kids excited about it and I am excited as well,” said head coach Aundre Goode.”
They won the 12U Super Bowl defeating the Southwest Cardinals 38-6 in a rematch. Tucker lost to the Cardinals earlier in the season. Tucker jumped out to an early 19-0 lead after multiple touchdown passes from quarterback Aaron Goode and a rushing score. Goode had it going and looked comfortable in the pocket all night. He had three touchdown throws and was big at the end of the half halting any momentum the Cardinals could build. Goode had an interception that stifled the drive for Southwest and got the ball in the opponent’s territory right before the half. He was named the B2C player of the game.
The Tucker defense was exceptional all game. They were in the backfield all night and were led by Jeremiah Tillman. Tillman was big on the defensive side of the ball forcing multiple pressures and getting to the quarterback all night. The running game was nonexistent for the Cardinals on Saturday night and Tillman is a big reason why.
You know it was a good night when there was a botched snap on a punt, and one of your best players, Joshua Morse picks it up and takes it the distance for a 40+ yard run and gets the ball into Cardinals territory. Morse broke a couple of tackles and trucked a defender along the way. He also had a stellar game on both sides of the ball. On defense, he was a force in the middle not allowing rushing lanes and had multiple tackles for loss. Offensively, he had two rushing touchdowns and was a difference-maker whenever he touched it. That effort helped him win B2C Player of the Game along with Goode.
Tucker won in convincing fashion and never let their foot off the gas in the game. It was a team that believed early in the season and continued to trek forward to their ultimate goal of winning a championship. The moment was cool as you will see. A team that battled adversity and injury all season and put it together for four complete quarters. The sweet taste of victory could be seen on the players’ and coaches’ faces as they celebrated it in exhilarating fashion, doing their patented celebration. They received their championship trophy and Super Bowl rings from Albright Field and took in a moment they will never forget. The talent at the youth level has never been better at Tucker. Their 11U team also won a championship in the game before against Douglasville.
