There were 17 teams across each of the state’s eight classifications to go undefeated through the regular season and each class had at least one undefeated program except for Class 2A. Five top-ranked programs finished the regular season without a loss – Mill Creek (7A), Gainesville (6A), Coffee (5A), Benedictine (4A), Calvary Day (3A) and Schley County (A-Division I).
Mill Creek (7A) and Benedictine (4A) are the only teams to have still not lost since winning the state championship in their respective classes last season. Benedictine last lost on Sept. 9, 2022 to then-No. 3 Ware County 14-10 but then won 11 games including a 14-13 victory over Cedartown in the championship game. Mill Creek’s last loss was to then-No. 1 Buford 39-27 on Oct. 14, 2022 and then won eight games including a 70—35 victory over Carrollton in the state championship game.
In Class 4A, there were a state-leading four programs to go undefeated – top-ranked Benedictine, No. 2 North Oconee, No. 4 Spalding and No. 5 Central-Carroll. In Class 3A, No. 6-ranked Lumpkin County was the lowest-ranked program to finish the regular season without a loss, marking the first undefeated regular season and first region title (7-3A) in program history.
The top-three ranked teams in Classes 7A and 6A all went undefeated. In Class 7A, that’s No.1 Mill Creek, No. 2 Walton and No. 3 Colquitt County. In Class 6A, that’s No. 1 Gainesville, No. 2 Thomas County Central and No. 3 Douglas County.
