Savannah Christian Jamari McIvory is having a great 2023 season. His recruiting is beginning to heat up and he has an unofficial visit set up with UAB on November 4th. McIvory talked about what he is looking forward to on the visit.
“I’m looking forward to feeling the atmosphere on campus and meeting the coaches and staff. Also, feeling the energy from the players on game day at the UAB Visit,” said McIvory.
He also visited South Carolina three weeks ago and talked about what stood out on his visit with the Gamecocks.
“The atmosphere was awesome at the night game,” said McIvory. “Feeling the energy from the players and coaches was a great experience. Meeting and speaking with the coaches was also a great experience.
McIvory also visited Northern Illinois over the summer. He raved about the value they put on education and the vibes he received from the coaches.
“The visit to Northern Illinois was great. I had the opportunity to meet the coaches and academic advisors. Coach Hammock strives for having as many players as possible achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is awesome,” said McIvory. “I loved the positive energy from the coaches. I got to spend some good time with Coach Hawkins, and he went over ways I could fit at NIU. It’s a great program.”
McIvory has five interceptions in 2023, and is currently tied for third most in the state. One of his memorable plays was a pick six against 4 star quarterback Jake Merklinger (Tennessee commit), where he took it back 90+ yards and showed off that track speed. McIvory won the 200M and 400M at the Track State championships this past spring. He also has an unofficial visit set up for October 7th at Troy University for track.
“I study a lot of game film with the coaches, and I have good speed to cover ground. Savannah Christian also has one of the best front sevens in the state (LaDamion Guyton and Elijah Griffin),” said McIvory. When the ball goes up, I’m looking to go up and get the ball.”
McIvory has offers from Wayne State University and Shorter and college coaches are starting to take notice. He’s a ballhawk around the football and has elite cover skills. Shorter offered him this past summer and he talked about how the offer came about.
“Coach Robles contacted me over the summer and wanted me to come to a camp. I was finally able to make one in Valdosta, Ga,” said McIvory. “I had a good camp. A few weeks later the coach contacted me and told me he wanted to offer me an opportunity to come play at Shorter University.”
McIvory looks to finish the season strong for Savannah Christian. The Raiders have some important region battles coming up in the next few weeks. If they are going to make it to the playoffs, they need their front seven to continue to cause havoc and one of their best defensive players (McIvory) to continue to take away the big plays with his elite ball skills.
