So much for a quiet summer.
Just over a week after the arrest and subsequent resignation of their athletics director, UGA players Dontavious Jackson and Tavarres King were incarcerated themselves on Saturday morning on alcohol-related charges. Jackson was charged with six misdemeanors including DUI, underage possession of alcohol, violation of the move-over law, leaving the scene of an accident, violation of a learner’s permit and following too closely.
Jackson was driving King’s car, who was charged with underage possession.
Head coach Mark Richt has suspended them both indefinitely from the team, although Jackson’s charges will require at minimum a six-game suspension while King will have to sit for at least the season opener.
“I’m disappointed in their decision-making and lack of judgment and they will both pay a stiff price,” Richt said in an official statement. “All our players need to understand that it’s a privilege to be a Bulldog and their conduct needs to reflect the standards we expect.”
The damage to the car Jackson hit is considered minor and there were no reported injuries. The officer pulled Jackson over for not moving over to the left lane when passing a police car that was pulled over on the side of the road.
