The 2021 GHSA Track and Field Championships crowned this year’s overall team champions on Saturday following three thrilling days of incredible performances. The Alpharetta boys defended their 2019 state crown by garnering 62 total points in Class 7A. The Raiders got a first-place finish by CJ Mcferrin (38.21) in the 300-meter hurdles and Mcferrin also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles. The Walton girls clinched Class 7A with 55 points to second-place Peachtree Ridge’s 51 total and earned their first state title since 2012. In Class 6A, the Carrollton boys and Westlake girls dominated the competition. Carrollton’s victory resulted in the program’s 27th all-time boys state title and its first since 2012. As for Westlake, the Lions racked up a massive 94.50 total points and claimed their sixth state title since 2009 and first since 2017.
In Class 5A, the Blessed Trinity boys clinched their first team state title in program history and the Woodward Academy girls claimed their first state title since 1986. Stephenson surged past the Class 4A competition following a brilliant showing in Saturday’s sprint events. The Jaguars got first place finished by Bradley Favors in the 400-meter (46.74) and 200-meter (21.65) and teammate Jace Coleman added a fourth-place finish in the 200 to give Stephenson more valuable points. On the girls side, Marist dominated with a 116-point tally and edged second-place Jefferson’s 78.50 mark.
The Westminster boys won the Class 3A championship to give the program its fifth all-time state title and first since 2013 and the Greater Atlanta Christian girls clinched the program’s fourth state title since 2016. The Pace Academy boys snapped a championship drought that dated back to 1972 in Class 2A and the Oglethorpe County girls made history by winning the program’s first-ever state title with a 91-point finish to second-place Pace Academy’s 76.
In Class A Private, the Landmark Christian boys secured the program’s 10th all-time state title and the Hebron Christian girls claimed the first state crown in program history with a 112-point performance over second-place Wesleyan’s 78 points. Finally, in Class A Public, the Commerce boys defended its 2019 state title with 102 points—nearly doubling second-place Montgomery County’s 52 points. On the girls side, Gordon Lee scored 102 points and edged runner-up Montgomery County (92) to win the program’s second-straight championship and third all-time state crown.
