PANTHER BEAT: Women’s tennis player wins conference player of the year award

Ga State’s Nakic Named CAA Tennis Co-Player of the Year

Norfolk, Va. – Georgia State sophomore Diana Nakic has been named the
2010 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Co-Player of the
Year, and received First Team All-CAA honors in singles and Second Team
All-CAA honors in doubles, announced by the CAA at Thursday’s
tournament banquet. Nakic shares the award with Old Dominion’s Nadine
Fahoum.

Nakic has won the award for the second straight year and she is just
one of five two-time winners of the award.

Nakic led Georgia State with a perfect 16-0 record and has not dropped
a set in the regular season. She defeated two ranked opponents this
season in No. 84 Monica Arguello from Furman and No. 19 Nadine Fahoum
from Old Dominion. She is one win shy of tying the school record for
wins in a season (17) held by Lisa Teer in 1989.

In doubles play Nakic partnered with Linda Hricistova to earn an 8-4
record, which was good for second team All-CAA honors in doubles.

She was named CAA Player of the Week twice this season on Mar. 17 and
Mar. 30. Her last lost came last season in the NCAA tournament against
North Carolina’s Sanaz Marand, 6-1, 6-4.

Nakic started the season with a No. 62 national ranking and finished
the regular season with a No. 25 national ranking. She has been ranked
as high as No. 22 making it the highest ranking in Georgia State
history.
