-Georgia leads at the half 30-29 after trailing for much of the first 10 minutes. The Dawgs came back behind three-pointers by Ricky PcPhee and the usual all-around brilliance by Trey Thompkins, who has six points.
-In an odd turn of events, reserve tickets are sold out for the game that pits 14-11 Alabama against 11-13 UGA but student tickets appear to have not even come close to being sold out. In other words, the alumni and fans have shown up, but the UGA student body, 35,000+ strong, has largely elected to ignore the game despite being held within walking distance of most of them.
-Yet another slow offensive start for a UGA home game. The game was 5-5 five minutes into the game and 15-15 halfway through the first half.
-Since I am blogging live from the game, there is a good chance the Dawgs win if recent history holds true. Georgia is 3-0 with your humble correspondent in attendance this season, all in Saturday home SEC games.
-Chris Barnes and Ebuka Anyaorah got rare starts for Georgia today. Barnes paid off immediately as he made a nice post move to notch UGA’s first two points of the game.
-Travis Leslie added to his highlight reel of spectacular dunks today. He followed a teammate’s miss with a one-handed jam that brought the crowd to its feet. In case you didn’t see it, don’t worry- it will likely be featured on Sports Center tonight.
-Ricky McPhee leads the Dawgs with nine points, all on three-pointers. The former walk-on is 3-6 from behind the arc today. Scenario Hillman is leading Bama with nine points as well. Hillman, from Irwinton, is one of two Bama starters from Georgia along with Tony Mitchell from Swainsboro.
-Georgia is 0-4 from the free throw line, a strange stat as they are at home and lead the SEC with a 73% percentage from the stripe.
