HALFTIME BLOG: Dawgs down three at the break

Georgia is looking for their second conference win of the season and the first since the last time I was up here. Surprisingly, the Dawgs’ only SEC win came against No. 8 Tennessee. Since then, UGA has lost three-straight, all to unranked teams.

Vandy came into tonight ranked No. 18 in the land and is 17-4 overall and 6-1 against the SEC.

Like the weather outside, the first half was dreary and cold. Neither team played crisply as turnovers and poor shooting ruled the game as Vandy took a 26-23 lead to the break.

Despite a slow start, Georgia embarked on a 7-0 run to take a 19-9 lead with 10:09 left in the half.

But Vandy steadily climbed back into the game, taking advantage of sloppiness from Georgia.

Jermaine Beal led a 14-2 Dore run that gave the visitors their first lead of the night at 23-21. Beal leads both teams at the half with 14 points on 4-5 shooting from the three-point line.

Trey Thompkins leads the Dawgs with 11 points and seven boards.

-Not a bad crowd at the Steg tonight. Almost 8,000 have braved the cold and wet conditions to be here tonight, including a smattering of Vandy fans.

-You have to give it to the UGA students for their creativity. The last time I was here, one of them caked himself in peanut butter for some reason. Tonight, one guy is strategically placed himself behind Vandy’s basket wearing nothing more than an American flag speedo. Whenever the Dores shoot a free throw, he gyrates uncontrollably while the rest of the students point at him. VU is 1-4 from the line.
