Monday Roundup: Packers fall to Cards in OT, Ravens smack Pats

Tom Brady had never lost a home playoff game entering Sunday’s contest between his New England Patriots and the visiting Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens scored on the first play from scrimmage then forced three Brady turnovers in the first quarter to race out to a 24-0 lead, and like that, the Ravens were off to a 33-14 win. Brady finished the game with three interceptions and one lost fumble to go along with two TD passes. Ray Rice meanwhile scored twice and the Ravens also picked up a TD from Willis McGahee in the fourth to ice the game after New England had tried to mount a comeback. The No.6 seed Ravens head to Indy to face Peyton Manning and the Colts next Saturday night.

It was announced Sunday morning that future Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner would retire when the Arizona Cardinals season is over. With that in mind the Cards took the field against the Green Bay Packers in Glendale, Arizona and raced out to an early lead. Warner tossed five touchdowns but it was Green Bay that scored on its final seven possessions, including six TDs to force OT, after trailing 31-10. On the first drive, Aaron Rodgers was stripped by CB Michael Adams and former Auburn standout Karlos Dansby picked the ball out of the air and returned it 17 yards for the game-winning score. The Cardinals now head to New Orleans to face the No.1 seed Saints.

The new Georgia Bulldog defensive coordinator will have to make due next season without the team’s top defensive player as junior Rennie Curran elected to forego his senior season and make himself eligible for the NFL draft. Curran was named team MVP and led the SEC in tackles as a junior. For his career, he appeared in 37 games with 30 starts and finished with 298 tackles. The former Brookwood star finished with back-to-back 100 tackle seasons.
