Great Atlanta Bash: Carver-Atlanta 18, Jackson-Atlanta 7

ATLANTA – Carver trailed Jackson 7-6 for the majority of the game but two quick touchdown runs, and an interception, in the final three minutes put the game out of reach as the Panthers moved past Maynard Jackson 18-7 in the Great Atlanta Bash at Georgia State Stadium.

“It was a good game,” said Jo’Quavious Marks, who scored on a 7-yard run with 11 seconds left in the first quarter.  “We messed up a bit on our behalf, we weren’t hitting the right assignments, so we have to work on that in practice to get ready for next week.”

With 3:19 left in the game, Noah Smith pulled Carver ahead 13-7 on a 61-yard touchdown run. Tadarius Jett intercepted a Jackson pass with 1:53 left in the game which set up another Marks touchdown run from five yards out to give Carver the 18-7 lead.

“It was big when the defense stepped up,” said Marks. “So we had to score for the defense when they got the pick, it was huge. They gave us momentum on the offense to score from the red zone so we punched it in.”

Jackson scored its only touchdown with 4:23 left before halftime on a 31-yard pass from Charles Daniel to DeShane London Jr., who made an acrobatic catch in the end zone to secure the ball.

“They fought hard,” Marks said of Jackson. “They played physical, they are better than last year. I bet they will have a good season. They played with a lot of intensity and gave it 100 percent.”
