Softball and Volleyball scores from Tuesday

Latiya Lee threw four no-hit innings for Miller Grove in its 14-2 victory over Tucker on Tuesday in the teams’ seasons openers at Tucker.

In the first inning, Lee helped her team on the offensive side with an RBI single and stole home in a double steal to put the Wolverines up 3-0. She then struck out the side in the bottom of the first and the next two in the bottom of the second on the way to a flawless two innings. Chyna Simmons and Jalina Roberson each drove in one run in a three-run inning to extend the Miller Grove lead to 6-0 entering the bottom of the third.

In the third, Lee walked Tucker’s Aryss McDuffy and Kayleah Owens to open the inning and McDuffy got Tucker on the board after two wild pitches to make it a 6-1 game. The Wolverines put the game away scoring seven of eight runs in the fourth inning with two outs led by Dominique Coney’s effort.

Coney led with a double, scored on an error and Tamara Burnice’s infield single scored a run. Simmons and Smith scored runs with a hit by pitch and a walk with the bases loaded to score Coney. Coney then hit a liner into left-center field which bounced off the fence. The relay to the plate was late to allow the inside-the-park grand slam to make it a 14-1 game.

Coney was 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, double, three runs and four RBI’s for Miller Grove.

Madison County, ranked fifth in Class AAAA, needed little time to build a commanding lead over Hart County before cruising to a 16-3 victory.

In the first inning, the Red Raiders enjoyed a 6-0 lead with just one out. At the end of the inning, Madison County was up 8-0. Hart County added a run in the top of the first inning on a fielding error and another run in the second inning, also on an error. In the bottom of the third inning, the Bulldogs scored their final run to pull within five runs, 8-3.

In the top of the fourth, Emma Strickland’s home run pushed the Madison County lead to 10-3 and the Red Raiders added a run with a sac-fly before end of the inning. In the top of the fifth, Madison County hit its stride as Laken Minish, Ella Chancey, Riley Smith and Macey Echols crossed the plate to push the lead to 15-3.

Lexi Jordan and Skylar Minish each were 3-for-3 at the plate. Crane, Emma Strickland and Gracie Nix each had three RBI’s. Lily Crane was credited with the win.

On the volleyball court, Carrollton defeated Our Lady of Mercy (25-18, 25-7) and Sandy Creek (25-23, 25-18) in two sets. It marked the first-ever time that the Trojans defeated Sandy Creek. Allie Dishman led with 11 kills. Olivia Dickson led with 22 assists.
