In Class AAAAAAA, Hillgrove swept Grayson (9-4, 4-1) and awaits the winner of Parkview and North Gwinnett, which had to postpone their double-header to Wednesday due to field issues. Two-time defending Class AAAAAA state champion Pope dominated Harrison 12-0 in Game 1, but the Hoyas grabbed a 5-3 win Game 2 that will force a winner-take-all Game 3 Wednesday at 6 p.m. On the other side of the bracket, Heritage-Conyers and Effingham County also split Tuesday’s double-header, with the Generals taking Game 1 (4-1) and falling to Effingham County 11-6 in Game 2.
In Class AAAAAA, Locust Grove jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning, but Loganville roared back with eight unanswered runs to take Game 1 (11-5). The Red Devils completed the sweep with a 6-1 win. Ola swept Decatur (11-10, 6-4) and will take on Loganville in search of the program’s first state title.
In Class AAAA, Region 7 rivals Denmark and Blessed Trinity are set to face off Wednesday in a decisive Game 3 after splitting on Tuesday. Visiting Denmark opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in Game 1, but CJ Abrams and Steele Chambers were both driven home on sacrifice flies in the bottom of the frame to put Blessed Trinity up 2-1. The Titans grew the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third before Denmark’s Trevor Bryk hit a two-run homer to bring the Danes within 4-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth where Chambers would drive in two more runs and give Blessed Trinity a 6-3 victory. In Game 2, the teams were tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh and Logan DeLong drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Danes a 4-3 win. Northside-Columbus and North Oconee are also heading to a third game after the Titans took Game 1 6-5 and Northside answered with a 6-5 Game 2 win. In Game 1, North Oconee trailed Northside-Columbus 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Titans loaded the bases with nobody out and shrunk the deficit to one run and then Bubba Chandler batted in Tanner Evilsizor and Woody Barks to score the walk-off win.
The field in Class AAA is set with Pace Academy sweeping North Hall (9-1, 8-4) and Pike County sweeping Hart County (9-2, 4-3) on Tuesday. Both Class AA series are tied after Bleckley County’s (1-0, 8-2) split with Jeff Davis and Callaway’s (5-4, 4-0) split with Rockmart.
Gordon Lee swept Bowdon (3-0, 13-4) in Class A-Public and awaits the winner of the Schley County vs. Irwin County series after Schley’s 6-4 win Game 1 and Irwin County’s 6-0 Game 2 triumph. In Class A-Private, No. 20 seed Hebron Christian stunned top-seed Tattnall Square 9-8 in Game 1, but Tattnall Square split the series with a 7-3 win Game 2. Tomorrow’s winner will meet with the winner of Wesleyan and Savannah Christian, which split their series (14-2 Wesleyan and 6-3 Savannah Christian).
