High school basketball in the metro Atlanta area is huge and we at Score, along with Georgia Public Broadcasting, are pleased to announce we will be webcasting a boys and girls game every Tuesday night beginning Jan. 5.Much like we did with GPB for 15 weeks of football, it will be a total interactive experience, as you will be able to watch the game and chat about it as well as get other scores from around the area.
We will start with two big matchups on Jan. 5 at Walton High School, as Milton and the Raiders will face each other in a Class AAAAA, Region 6 meeting. The girls game begins at 6 p.m. while the boys, with Milton ranked No. 1 and Walton at No. 4, will follow. We will also be doing on-court interviews as well as implementing an educational component between games.

THAT TEBOW GUY ….
As one that wore the jersey for the Crimson Tide and, if I might say, wrote quite a diary on my experiences, I was one proud graduate last weekend when Alabama easily knocked off Florida and moved one win away from a national championship. I also loved seeing a tear-filled Tim Tebow afterwards, which gave me great fodder for my Sunday radio show. My problem with Tebow crying is that it’s a football game and, no matter the importance we all put on sports, they will never be more than games. It’s not life and death, though his emotions did lead to a great three hours of sports talk radio. So thanks, Tim. I do think that, despite the tears, Tebow is going to be great in the NFL some day and would love to see him here in Atlanta as a tight end to follow the great Tony Gonzalez.
A WORD ON THE FALCONS …
At 6-6, the team has not quite lived up to everyone’s expectations, though it is not easy to win in the NFL if you have to play a lot of backups. The fact is, as healthy as this team stayed last year when they were 11-5, it has been hit hard by injuries this time around. The chances of making the playoffs are slim, but it will give the team an opportunity to give some of its younger players the experience they need, which may pay off next season. What’s encouraging to me is that one insider told me a few years back, when the team was struggling, how hard it was to go to work and that the future didn’t look good. He said that is not the case anymore. The morale in the front office remains strong and everyone realizes this is just a blip on the map of an organization that is pointed in the right direction.
AND THEN THERE’S KIFFIN …
Every coach in the SEC, including Georgia’s Mark Richt, should be thrilled that Tennessee hired Lane Kiffin. Look at the media pressure he takes off everyone else. Has there ever been a coach in the news more for being just a downright knucklehead? Kiffin is coming to Atlanta with his Tennessee team for the Chick-fil-A Bowl to face Virginia Tech and recently we found out that the NCAA is investigating the Volunteers for recruiting violations. According to reports, the NCAA is going to interview Volunteer commitment JaWuan James, who played this year on the offensive line at North Gwinnett. And then there were the three freshman players that were arrested last month and charged with armed robbery; two were dropped from the program while the other was reinstated. We are also hearing that the NCAA feels Kiffin may be telling his female hostesses to use overly aggressive methods to help bring recruits to Tennessee. Yeah, that’s exactly what I want my two daughters doing in two years when they go to college. I guess when the Tennessee fans sing “Rocky Top” at the Georgia Dome later this month for the bowl game it will have a different meaning than usual. “Rocky Top you’ll always be, home sweet home to me, Good ol’ Rocky Top, here’s a pretty girl if you come to Tennessee.”
AND FINALLY …
Bob Williams, a friend who also happens to run the Atlanta Spirit, which covers the Hawks, Thrashers and Philips Arena, watched his son finish up a tremendous senior season for Lovett. In the 49-41 Class 2A semifinals loss to Calhoun, Max had 170 receiving yards on 10 catches and scored a touchdown. No word yet on where Max will be going to college, but you can sure bet he will be playing on Saturdays.
