FRIDAY BLOG: Regular-season finales will decide playoff fates

It’s the last week of the regular season and that means a number of games have major playoff implications attached to them. The North Gwinnett Bulldogs have been flawless all season long, but they will face their toughest test yet when they host Peachtree Ridge. The Lions have a deadly combination quarterback-wide receiver combination in Nick Lombardo and Bradley Roby and look to do damage against a stout North Gwinnett defense.

For the Bulldogs, quarterback C.J. Uzomah has been one of the best players in the state all season long but missed the game against Duluth last week due to an injury, and his availability for tonight is unknown. The winner will be the Region 7-AAAAA Champions.

Colquitt County has been one of the surprise teams of the season as they have an 8-1 record coming into their game against Northside, Warner Robins. This game is a big game in Region 1-AAAAA because if Northside wins they will be the region champions. If the Packers win, they will be the No. 2 seed and if Lowndes defeats Warner Robins the Vikings will be the champions while Northside will be the No. 3 seed.

Another game that will determine playoff seedings will be Gainesville vs. Flowery Branch. The Red Elephants have been on cruise control all season long as they come into the game with a 9-0 record. Flowery Branch has a record of 7-2 but is last year’s state runner-up so it should be a challenge for Gainesville. Fans will also get the see the top two quarterbacks in the state in Gainesville’s Blake Sims and Flowery Branch’s Connor Shaw.

And our game of the week features two undefeated teams as the Roswell Hornets travel to Marietta to face the Lassiter Trojans. The winner will be the champion of Region 6-AAAAA. You can watch the game by going to www.gpb.org/football/watch starting at 7:15 p.m.
