There wasn’t much movement in Class AAAAAAA girls, as the top eight teams stay the same by taking care of business since the last rankings. Colquitt County’s loss to Lowndes takes the Lady Packers from No. 9 to unranked; Hillgrove moved up one spot to No. 9, and North Cobb comes in at No. 10.
In Class AAAAAA, Lovejoy continues to dominate; the No. 1 team took down No. 6 Tucker 68-33 on Tuesday. Winder-Barrow jumps Harrison from No. 3 to No. 2 after a 21-point win over No. 4 Lanier, which had defeated the Lady Bulldoggs earlier in the season. Alpharetta jumps back into the rankings at No. 10, replacing Sequoyah.
Buford beat Flowery Branch 69-38 in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 meeting last week and Harris County replaces the Falcons at No. 2. The day before a 64-43 loss to Rome, Carrollton handed Villa Rica its first loss of the year 58-46. As a result, Carrollton settles in at No. 6, Villa Rica fell to No. 8 and Rome debuts at No. 10.
Carver-Columbus validated its No. 1 status by serving a 67-37 defeat to No. 9 Westover. No. 6 Madison County held off St. Pius 46-43 and No. 7 Marist used a 48-33 win over Chestatee to extend its winning streak to six games. No. 10 Cross Creek fell 49-47 to Burke County, but their 52-47 win over the Bears earlier this month preserved their place in the poll.
Top-ranked Beach is riding a 9-game winning streak into its game vs. local rival, and fifth-ranked, Johnson-Savannah. Second-ranked GAC is learning to work without its leading producer, Robyn Benton, who tore her ACL in a holiday tournament. The Lady Spartans have not lost since Benton’s injury.
Laney will not let go of the top spot in Class AA after taking a 73-53 victory over Class AAA Johnson-Savannah. Despite falling to Monticello, 51-41, Banks County holds true as the second-ranked team. Washington County remains third.
Greenville remains the class of A-Public, and rolled to a big win over Crawford County. Pelham follows close behind with only one loss on the season. With two losses in its last four games, Macon County falls from the No. 6 spot to No. 10.
Holy Innocents’ remains atop A-Private. Calvary Day advances to the No. 2 spot and has blown past anyone it faces in region. A series of strong wins for St. Francis keep it in the top three, and the team has a good chance to stay ahead of Wesleyan, which will face off against No. 1 ranked Holy Innocents’ in the next game.
