Colquitt County took its third loss of the season, a wild 51-45 overtime loss to top-ranked Lowndes, but there’s no need to drop the Packers from No. 9. McEachern’s 34-14 win over a good Marietta team wasn’t enough to vault it over Colquitt after its epic showdown. In fact, the Class AAAAAAA Top 10 stays the same this week; every team but Colquitt won or was off.
Richmond Hill is out of the rankings after a loss to region rival Brunswick, and Douglas County is back in at 8-1 after a blowout of struggling Creekside. Coffee’s win over a now 3-6 Valdosta team is more impressive than it seems, as the Wildcats are still No. 10 in the Maxwell ratings; Coffee jumps one spot to No. 3 over Harrison, which is without Justin Fields for the rest of the year and squeaked by Sequoyah 31-24.
Cedar Grove, Peach County and Greater Atlanta Christian still lead Class AAA. Bremen’s fall after losing to No. 4 Calhoun is the only shift reflected in the rankings this week. The Blue Devils fell from seventh to eighth with Morgan County moving to No. 7.
Benedictine, following a 45-0 victory over Metter, holds the top spot in Class AA in the final week of the regular season. Hapeville Charter is a close second after a 42-2 thrashing of Therrell. Both of the top-ranked teams are playing to form entering the playoffs. Brooks County’s loss to No. 4 Thomasville was the only loss from a ranked team last week. Brooks slid to No. 7.
ELCA wins 70-0 over Mount Vernon Presbyterian to continue its dominance. No. 3 Mount Paran scores a big win, 35-17 at home over Mount Pisgah, which stays put at No. 7. No. 8 Tattnall Square lost to No. 5 Stratford Academy, but both stay in their slots as well. Three-loss Darlington, the No. 7 team in the Maxwell ratings, re-enters at No. 10.
