HALFTIME BLOG: Dawgs lead at the break

-Georgia leads at the half 14-3 on the strength of 172 passing yards by Joe Cox. AJ Green accounted for 72 of the yards, including a 56–yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Dawgs a 7-0 lead.

-Green caught the pass down the right sideline and proceeded to shake two ASU defenders for a spectacular run after the catch. Green later made another Devil defender miss on a wide receiver screen and skated down the sideline for a 16-yard gain and a first down. The play keyed another touchdown drive by UGA, as Fred Munzenmeier took it in from two yards out to give UGA the 14-3 lead that they are currently enjoying at the half.

-Speaking of Munz, the junior from Norcross now has three career carries- all of them for touchdowns.

-For the Sun Devils, true freshman kicker Bobby Wenzig filled in nicely for former Groza Award winner Thomas Weber when he booted a 43-yard field goal to get ASU on the board in the first quarter. Wenzig was not expected to play this year, but had his redshirt taken off when Weber went down with a groin injury.

-ASU began the game running behind senior Demetri Nance. The Devils moved the ball a little on their first few drives with Nance taking handoffs out of the shotgun, but were slowed down considerably in the second quarter when the Georgia defense began stuffing Nance at the line. Nance finished the half with 67 yards rushing.

-Rantavious Wooten, a true freshman from Belle Glade, FL caught his first career pass in the second quarter on a 27-yard reception down the left side on the field. UGA had a third and 12 on their own 20 when Cox hit Wooten for the first down. UGA did not score on the drive, but the catch flipped the field position.

-Drew Butler may leave Georgia as its greatest punter ever. His Dad is UGA’s greatest place kicker ever. Butler’s first punt of the night sailed 54 yards. A fine kick by even the best punters, but for Butler, it was below his standards. The former Peachtree Ridge Lion came into the game with a 54.5 average per kick, which means his punt of 54 yards brought his average down.
