After losing back-to-back games for the first time this season last week, No. 1 Walton finished the slate strong by sweeping a Friday double-header with Woodstock (2-0, 12-4). North Gwinnett closed out the regular season with a 27-2 record and the Bulldogs ride a six-game winning streak after their most recent loss, a 5-1 battle with Class 5A’s Loganville. No. 4 Parkview held off No. 5 Brookwood 2-0 in their season finale and they enter the playoffs in the same position in the poll. After losing three-straight games in early April, No. 6 Lassiter took Game 3 against Walton and then swept a three-game series with Roswell (8-0, 8-2, 13-3) for a fourth-straight victory. No. 8 East Coweta’s 10-game winning streak was snapped as the Indians lost a cross-classification contest with Troup in their finale 4-0.
In Class 6A, No. 1 Pope defeated No. 6 Northview 6-2 on Wednesday, while No. 2 Allatoona and No. 5 Dalton split a pair of extra-inning games in the past calendar week. No. 3 Winder-Barrow swept a three-game series with Lanier this past week to finish the year with just two losses and a perfect 23-0 record against instate opponents.
Class 5A No. 1 Starr’s Mill split this week’s home and away with No. &*&* Harris County. Harris County jumped Buford for No. 5 after the Wolves closed the season with losses in three of its final four games and four of its final six games.
Class 4A No. 1 Blessed Trinity hasn’t lost to a Georgia opponent since a Feb. 27 extra innings matchup with Kell (8-7). The Titans cruised through the region schedule with an undefeated record, but now face off with Cartersville in a surprising first-round matchup. Cartersville, which was ranked No. 1 different during points during the season finished 8-4 in region play and grabbed the No. 4 seed in the playoffs. While a No. 4 seed should punish the Purple Hurricanes in the poll, instead it indicates the strength of the four teams in Region 4 and rewards one of few regions that has a fighting chance to advance all of its teams into the second round.
Class 3A continues to look wide-open as the polls remained locked for another consecutive week. Callaway swept a three-game series with Heard County to jump to No. 2 in Class 2A. In Class A-Public, Schley County and Emanuel County Institute surpassed Bowdon to complete the top 3 with No. 1 Gordon Lee.
