The BMW Championship of this past weekend was the final tournament leading up to the PGA TOUR Championship at the East Lake Country Club in Atlanta next Thursday. Again, over the weekend we saw many key players move around significantly within the standings, and we are now left with the final 30 who will fight to the finish.
Most notable was Tiger Woods, who took the top spot of the leaderboard once again with an outstanding performance that included a Cog Hill course record of 62 on Saturday. Apparently Tiger has been working on his putting, and it really showed when he was able to close out the tournament on Sunday with eight strokes separating him and second place, which was shared by Jim Furyk and Mark Leishman. Brandt Snedeker had a surprisingly upsetting performance on Sunday as he merely needed to bogey the 18th hole in order to qualify for the TOUR Championship, and ended up missing three puts inside of four feet to wind up with a triple bogey, thus causing him to miss the cut. Sergio Garcia, another big-name golfer, missed the cut as well after a valiant, yet not quite good enough performance over the weekend that placed him just eight spots above the cut.
Everyone is very excited, I am sure, to see the top 30 battle it out at East Lake; thank the golf gods that we won’t have to hold our breath much longer. More on the preview for East Lake later this week.
