Dalton 42, Winder-Barrow 7
How the game was won: The Big Red rolled to a 35-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Quarterback JP Tighe and running back Ahmaad Tanner combined for five first half scores.
Top Performers: Ahmaad Tanner rushed for scores of 19 and seven yards to give the Catamounts an early 14-0 lead. JP Tighe scored on a 5-yard run and hit Sam Stepp on a 44-yard touchdown pass and Zeke Cobb for a 48-yard strike. Keith Adams scored a late 2-yard touchdown.
Woodstock 35, East Coweta 34
How the game was won: Woodstock trailed 27-0 in the second quarter and 34-7 at halftime before storming back to stun host East Coweta. The Wolverines threw four touchdown passes in the second half, the last of which gave them a 35-34 advantage with less than three minutes remaining. An interception by Jakwan Hale on a tipped pass with 1:47 left sealed Woodstock’s comeback victory.
Top performers: Wolverines’ quarterback Garrett Bass rushed for a touchdown in the first half and tossed three scoring strikes after halftime, two into the hands of Ethan Chamberlin and another to Noah Frith. Woodstock’s last two touchdowns came on receptions by Frith, the second of which resulted from a double-pass with Louis Hall throwing for the score. Devonte Brown had two touchdown runs for East Coweta, including one from 80 yards out.
Bainbridge 52, Whitewater 16
How the game was won: The Bainbridge Bearcats were relentless in their first round matchup with White water. Dameon Pierce opened up the Bainbridge scoring with three consecutive touchdowns to give the Bearcats an early 22-0 lead. Whitewater responded with a touchdown of their own, but failed to convert the extra-point. Dameon Pierce and Bainbridge continued to pour it on offensively and expanded their lead to 50-6. Whitewater scored another touchdown, but the Bainbridge offense proved to be too much for Whitewater to handle as the Bearcats win big 52-16.
Top Performers: It was very evident that Junior, Dameon Pierce was the most valuable player in this game. Pierce recorded six total touchdowns (five rushing) and a 77-yard reception for a touchdown. Pierce had 203 carries for 1,515 yards and 15 touchdowns prior to playoffs.
Cartersville 77, Chestatee 14
How the game was won: Cartersville hung a school-record 77 points, eclipsing their 1929 and 2013 record of 76.
Top Performers: Trevor Lawrence went 14-of-18 for 263 yards and seven touchdowns in the first half alone. Avery Showell caught three passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Trase Fezzia recorded a 100-yard pick-six. Trey Creamer, Antoine Jefferson and JKobe Orr all scored touchdowns. Tee Webb threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Dominique Williams on a swing pattern.
Fitzgerald 42, Dublin 7
How the game was won: Fitzgerald led 14-7 at the half but outgained visiting Dublin 187-39 in the second half to pull away.
Top performers: Ethan Gordon scored three touchdowns, on runs of 28, 16 and 9 yards, to go with 60 yards rushing. Quarterback James Graham rushed for a 22-yard touchdown and passed for a 41-yard score to Montreil Harris. Graham finished with 67 yards rushing. JD King rushed 13 times for 98 yards and a 25-yard touchdown and had one 47-yard reception. Israel Phillips scored Dublin’s lone touchdown on a 16-yard run.
Glynn Academy 45, Jonesboro 3
How the game was won: The Glynn Academy Terrors pounced on the Jonesboro Cardinals early for a decisive win. With a 15 yard run by Deejay Dallas, the Terrors capped off a swift 3-play drive and opened up an offensive onslaught. The Terrors totaled 426 yards to the Cardinals 14 in the first half. Jonesboro would not make the scoreboard until the third quarter with a 27-yard field goal.
Top performers: Glynn Academy’s Deejay Dallas scored two touchdowns:15 and 46 yard runs. Devon Peacock (23 yards) and Kendall Cross (36 yards) ran for a touchdown each. Banks Entwistle kicked a 27-yard field goal.
Peach County 42, Tattnall County 13
How the game was won: Peach County took care of business early and jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. The Trojans kept it rolling to take a 28-7 lead at halftime and were able to hold on in the second half as Tattnall tried to find answers to Antonio Gilbert and the Trojan offense.
Top Performers: Gilbert, who was 14-of-18 passing for 198 yards in the first half, led the way with two passing touchdowns and a short touchdown run. Gilbert connected with Justin Harris on an 11 yard touchdown pass and Kearis Jackson on a 9 yard touchdown pass. James Jackson had two rushing touchdowns of 15 and 10 yards.
Brooks County 20, Southwest-Macon 16
How the game was won: Brooks County jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and then pushed the lead to 20-0 at halftime before a scoreless second half. Southwest got things rolling and applied pressure in the second half but it was too late to mount a serious charge.
Top Performers: Brooks County Naiquavis Sutton led the way scoring on two short runs. Deon Fountain anchored the defense by grabbing an interception and returning it 72 yards to set up a Rahjon Holden touchdown run. Southwest’s Jordan Slocum scored on a short run and Keyun Brantley returned a fumble 65 yards for a touchdown.
Northside-Warner Robins 52, Grovetown 0
How the game was won: Northside-Warner Robins found scoring from seven different players as they dominated visiting Grovetown. The Eagles put up 260 yards of offense in the first half as they held Grovetown to -19 yards on 18 plays.
Top Performers: Tobias Oliver led the Eagles to the second round of the playoffs with two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown. Oliver rushed in from 11 and six yards and connected with Marcus Jolly from 26 yards out to cap off a 4-play, 63-yard drive. Trayvon Willis scored on a seven yard run and Jadin Daniels and De’sean Dinkins both scored on goal line plays. Daniel Neal capped off a 6-play, 54-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run. Alex Gelter added a 35 yard field goal.
Lee County 41, Evans 0
How the game was won: Lee County outclassed Evans on both sides of the ball to put away the game and move forward in the playoffs. Lee put up 497 yards of offense while holding Evans to 83 yards of total offense.
Top Performers: Jase Orndorff led the way passing to Joshua Asbury and Kareen Wilson on 53 yard touchdown passes. Wilson finished the game with 58 yards on two receptions. Dashawn King rushed for touchdowns of 50 and two yards and led all rushers with 109 yards on 15 attempts. Giavonte Daniels scored a 50 yard rushing touchdown and Andy Kirt recovered a fumble and rushed it in from 28 yards out.
Northwest Whitfield 31, Oconee County 20
How the game was won: Northwest Whitfield claimed a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Luke Shiflett to Jay Jones. The Bruins added a Dominique Sistrunk 1-yard touchdown and a 25-yard field goal by Vincente Vaca to increase the lead to 17-0 before Oconee County got going. Jared Hood cut the lead to 17-6 at the half with a 6-yard Oconee County touchdown run. The Warriors continued to close the gap in the second half as quarterback Sam Middlebrooks ran in a 1-yard touchdown and successfully converted on the 2-point try to make it 17-14. Shiflett answered with his first of two second half touchdown runs minutes later to make it 24-14 Northwest Whitfield entering the final frame. Middlebrooks hit Roques Dowdy for a touchdown with 5:32 left in the game to bring the score within four (24-20). Oconee County regained possession with enough time to attempt a game-winning drive but fell just short of a 4th and 15 conversion. Northwest Whitfield took over and after a key first down to force the Warriors to burn their final timeout, Shiflett iced the game with a 5-yard score.
Top performers: Northwest Whitfield quarterback Luke Shiflett led the Bruins with one touchdown pass and two second half rushing touchdowns.
