How the game was won: After a pair of Jalyn Shelton touchdown runs got Ridgeland going, teammate Markeith Montgomery broke a 14-14 tie with what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown run with 22 seconds left before the half. Tanner Hill iced the game in the scoreless second half with a late fourth quarter interception.
Top performers: Ridgeland’s Jalyn Shelton controlled the game out of the Panthers backfield, taking 33 carries for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
Stephenson 24, Effingham County 7
How the game was won: Stephenson trailed 7-6 at halftime but got two safeties and two touchdowns in the second half to win on the road.
Top performers: The Jaguars’ D’Vonn Gibbons found Marcus Whitmire for an 18-yard touchdown on their first possession. Stephenson got a safety in the third quarter by tackling the Effingham ball-carrier in the end zone and one in the fourth on a snap that went out of the end zone. Antonio Woods had a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Jaylin Marson-Knight had a 1-yard TD run in the fourth.
Tucker 48, Bradwell Institute 15
How the game was won: Tucker got two touchdowns each from David Davis, Chris Broadwater and Josh Vann and led 35-0 at halftime.
Top performers: Chris Broadwater rushed seven times for 77 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 25 yards, and Josh Vann had three receptions for 88 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 48 yards. David Davis had a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a rushing score. Tucker quarterback Xavier Shephard threw for 116 yards and two scores. Taurean Taylor was the Tigers’ leading rusher with 85 yards on eight carries and a 17-yard touchdown.
