There are three more weeks until the top PGA players get together at the East Lake Golf Club and compete in the Tour Championship. Until then, there are two more tournaments to be played, and one of them is going on this weekend.
The Deutsche Bank Championship kicked off today and it will conclude on Labor Day. It takes place at the TPC in Boston, and the top 100 players in the standings are playing in the event. Some of the early leaders in the opening day are Steve Stricker, who was leading the field. Scott Verplank was in second and Angel Cabrera was holding steady at third.
Stricker had a good first round as he shot eight under par. He is second place in points with 3,105 before the Deutsche Bank Championship began. It can be pretty safely assumed that he will not catch the man in first place, Tiger Woods, who is sitting pretty at No. 1 with 4,381 points. We’ll see if Stricker can at least make the margin a little smaller when the tournament rolls on this weekend.
