One of the most exciting new events on the PGA TOUR is the TOUR Championship, which takes place at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta beginning on Sept. 23. The tournament is the final event in the “Chase for the FedEx Cup,” and the grand prize goes to the player that has accumulated the most points at the end of the season.
The first leg of the “Chase” is the Barclays, which is taking place this weekend. As of Friday, Paul Goydos and Steve Marino were tied for first. If they can keep this pace, they will be one step closer to making the Tour Championship.
Other golfers to watch for during this month-long stretch is Tiger Woods, who is the FedEx Cup points leader. Steve Stricker is right behind him in second place, and Kenny Perry and Phil Mickelson are in the top 10 while Georgia Tech alum Stewart Cink stands firm at No. 15. In order to qualify for the Tour Championship, a golfer must be in the top 30 in points before the tournament begins.
