Defensive performances highlighted Week 3 as shutouts dotted the statewide scoreboard. In Region 1-AAAAAA, Colquitt County, Valdosta and Tift County each blanked their opponents. The Packers stomped Crisp County 55-0, Valdosta took a 21-0 win over Swainsboro and Tift County beat Luella 31-0. These three teams have outscored their first three opponents 121-28, 80-10 and 104-8, respectively. Camden County handed Glynn Academy a 46-17 defeat on Friday and Lowndes dominated Drew 50-14. Lee County is new to Region 1 this year and is off to a 3-0 start as well. All six teams are undefeated entering Week 4 and the teams are collectively averaging 35.4 points per game on offense, while giving up 9.1 points per game against their non-region foes.
Tucker, Mays, Rockdale County, Baldwin, Pebblebrook, Milton, River Ridge, West Laurens, Westover, Thomas County Central, Albany, Gilmer, Tattnall County, Richmond Hill, South Effingham, Toombs County, Vidalia, Washington County, Bowdon, West Hall, Armuchee, Prince Avenue Christian, Charlton County, Hawkinsville, Whitefield Academy and Therrell were among the 29 teams that shutout opponents this past weekend.
Milton’s 26-0 shutout over Norcross was one of the most notable results from the weekend as the Eagles held the Blue Devils to just 94 yards of offense, but other teams in Region 5-AAAAAA posted impressive wins this weekend. Woodstock moved to 3-0 with a 21-3 win over Wheeler and Etowah continued to look strong in a 41-21 win over Cherokee. Walton forced 10 Lassiter turnovers on Friday and beat the rival-Trojans 59-16.
