We are counting down to National Signing Day 2014 by putting the spotlight on 25 of Metro Atlanta’s top prospects as they choose their college destinations. These athletes will be recognized for their outstanding varsity careers throughout Score Atlanta’s record breaking coverage of the Peach State’s signees. #NSDFrenzy
Kendall Baker starred on both lines at Marist High School, but he projects as a defensive tackle at the next level. Baker, who stands at 6’6’’ and 275 pounds, made 24 tackles during his senior season and also tallied 11 tackles for loss. He helped Marist compile an 11-3 record and reach the Class AAAA semifinals, in which they lost to Carrollton in quadruple overtime. The War Eagles posted three shutouts and seven times limited opponents to seven points or fewer.
A versatile athlete, Baker was recruited as both an offensive and defensive tackle. He can disrupt quarterbacks with his push off the line of scrimmage and in his ability to deflect passes. Baker was named to both the 2013 All-DeKalb County Team and the Region 6-AAAA First Team. The Georgia Sports Writers Association also put him on its All-State Team for Class AAAA.
Baker committed to the University of Georgia and is not wavering despite the change at defensive coordinator (Jeremy Pruitt has replaced Todd Grantham). He said he was impressed with Pruitt’s work at Florida State, which won the National Championship, and expects more of the same in Athens. The Atlanta native also received offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Boston College and Clemson, among others
