Hunter Holland is the right tackle for Buford and was a huge, literally, part of the Wolves success this year. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound lineman had 139 knockdowns and has not allowed a sack in 28 games. He’s been starting the past two years and has helped his team win two state titles along the way. He is dedicated to his grades as much as he is his team. He has a 3.6 GPA so far.
“I am planning on maintaining my honor status throughout high school and college,” Holland said of his academic success.
His coaches have helped him on the field, in the classroom, and also helped him make an even bigger impact in the community.
Holland and the Wolves go to Eagle Ranch in North Georgia to help provide counseling and education for teens experiencing difficult times.
“It gives them a second chance in life,” Holland said. “This experience allows me to be grateful for my family. I appreciate the time to work as a team off the field doing something for kids that need help,” Holland said. “I truly feel blessed to be on a team with coaches that are encouraging us to be Godly men and giving back.”
The work isn’t all fun, though. As you might expect, Holland and his football teammates spend a lot of their time doing the tough work.
“We are mainly doing labor, the hard landscaping,” Holland explained. “Moving trees, putting out tons of mulch and planting flowers. But it is nice to know that the kids and counselors will be able to enjoy the yard work we do.”
Holland doesn’t seem to mind the hard work one bit, and he will probably only recruit more teammates as he continues to work.
“It feels great to give back to the community and means a lot to help kids that are going through bad times,” Holland explained. “I hope to be able to help out more in the future.”
