Tyree Paulk is the quarterback at Coffee High School and he had a very impressive junior year. Paulk finished the season with 24 touchdowns, 1,693 passing yards, and 134 rushing yards. He is also now the all-time leader for career touchdowns and career passing yards at Coffee, and he still has his senior season yet to play. His parents and coaches have done a great job of keeping his mind off recruiting which has let him focus on football and keeping good grades. He truly is a student-athlete as academics are his first priority.
When not studying or playing sports, Paulk tries to give back to the community.
“I have gone out to the elementary and middle schools and talked with the students about the importance of doing their work and making good grades,” Paulk said. “Also about their behavior and being respectful to their teachers and peers.”
He is trying to instill the work ethic that has made him successful into the youth in his community. “I tell them that academics come first, and then sports second,” he explained.
Paulk has a unique opportunity in that he gets to play alongside his brother for Coffee’s football team. Paulk’s brother, Jalen Wilkerson, plays tight end for the Trojans, and he will also play alongside Paulk in the Elite Junior Classic.
“Playing with my brother is awesome! This is something that we always dreamed about as we were growing up,” Paulk explained. “We have been playing sports with each other ever since we played rec ball, so we have a bond that can’t be broken. It has been an honor to play with him.”
Wilkerson has helped Paulk by blocking for him as a tight end, catching passes, and helping around local elementary schools with one another. They are great players on the field, great students in the classroom, and wonderful mentors for the younger children in the Coffee community. They do this work in local schools because they understand the importance of giving back, and how powerful their voices can be. They will surely continue to set good examples for their peers on and off the field.
