Elite Junior: Hampton McConnell

West Forsyth HS

Hampton McConnell had a great season for West Forsyth this year as he passed for 1,761 yards and 11 touchdowns this year. He also ran the ball for 794 yards with 11 more touchdowns. Although they fell to Dacula in the first round of the playoffs this year, the Wolverines can expect big things from McConnell next year in his senior year.

McConnell’s skills have developed well over the past few years thanks in large part to the work he’s put in during the offseason. He attended a Football University camp this past summer, a football camp that is invite only for the most elite high school players. “I enjoyed the camp because the instruction was top of the line with NFL position coaches and players,” McConnell says.

College level coaches have noticed his play as he has spoken with Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas A&M, Clemson, Boston College and Purdue. He has already made visits to Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama, and he says the most interest has been shown by South Carolina and Georgia so far.

He’s started at quarterback the past three years for West Forsyth’s football team and he also plays for a nationally ranked travel baseball team in a summer league. In addition to his success on the football field, he is a member of the MLB draft prospect database as an outfielder and is in Max Preps top 100 players in Georgia.

McConnell also takes the time to help his community especially during the offseason. He helps by doing service work around his family’s church. McConnell does most of his work in the nursery with two year olds. McConnell does a lot of work with kids including help coach and mentor a local youth football team. “I’ve spent time working in the Miracle league for the past two years,” McConnell explains, “coaching and mentoring our local youth football team. Helping them get to a county championship this year.”

He has helped his football team win on the field while helping his community thrive off of it. McConnell also stays dedicated to school work keeping a 3.1 GPA through high school so far. He will more than likely continue that academic success in college, and when he gets the opportunity he will also continue to be successful on the field.
