Boys Game of the Week: Columbia downs county rival Tucker

The Columbia Eagles stretched their winning streak to 12 games with an impressive win over Tucker, 76-67 on Friday night. Junior shooting guard Jershon Cobb had a sensational game and led the Eagles with 23 points. Senior point guard Jarrod Houston was a spark plug with 13 points, 10 of which were on fast breaks.

The key to the game was the steals that turned into easy lay ups for Columbia. The Tucker attack was
unable to contain the Eagle guards when they were out on the break. Christopher Grier added 11 points and
had 4 huge steals.

Eagles head coach Phillip Mccray said, “our defense was huge tonight and that’s what won us the game.”
Jershon Cobb got off to a slow start but started to hit his shots in the second half and especially in the
4th quarter. “Every shot felt good in that 4th quarter and I’m glad we got this win tonight,” said Cobb.

Tucker didn’t get the win but was unbelievable from behind the three point line. They hit 13 three
pointers, coming mostly from Manny Atkins and Chris Kingsberry. Atkins, who was bothered by a sore left
wrist throughout the game, filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1
block. Kingsberry added 19 points.

The game was nip and tuck all the way up until 5 minutes to go when Atkins went out with foul trouble.
The tension filled crowd was sitting on its hands at that point, but then the Columbia defense took over.
Darnelius Session, who had 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and 9 points took over on the defensive end. Then, the team got the ball in the hands of Cobb and put the game away.

Columbia’s next contest will be on MLK day against Milton. Tucker will face off against Greater Atlanta
Christian on the same day.
