Sky Zone is recognizing 10 high school football players who not only take care of business on the field, but are heroes off the field for their leadership and efforts in the community. Each member of this group is called a Jump In To Give player.
Most people know about Kawon Bryant for his incredible numbers on the football field. The running back accumulated more than 2,000 yards this season while averaging more than nine yards per carry. However, Bryant is equally as impressive off the field. He’s known around his school for his work ethic in the classroom, and in his community for helping kids at Crossfit Oconee which is the Crossfit gym program in his area. His family and church life have helped him reach out to help those less fortunate than himself, which he appreciates more than most kids his age would.
Bryant has worked out with Crossfit Oconee since he was in eighth grade, and his trainer Michael Clark has given him opportunities in recent years to help mentor younger kids.
“Over the summer they hold camps, conditioning and training for kids,” Frank Gray, Bryant’s adoptive father, explained. “Kawon isn’t an employee or anything, but he goes over there and helps them train and speaks to the kids on growing up and being responsible in high school.”
Bryant’s work ethic in the gym and in his life has helped benefit his own life and the lives of those around him.
Bryant was adopted by Gray and his family at a young age, and his situation before adoption was less fortunate than that of the Gray family. His experiences from when he was younger have made him very passionate about giving whenever he can. He works with his church with its Mobile Food Pantry, which is a feed the hungry program for local families in need. Coming from the background Bryant came from, he truly understands what these programs mean to these people in need.
“We were in church and talking about the food pantry and what we were going to do for Christmas,” Gray said. “And Kawon just lit up. He’s always excited to help that program.”
With Gray’s guidance and his family’s love, Bryant has become a leader in the community. He works hard to improve himself whether it be working out with Crossfit Oconee or studying to keep up his GPA, but he also cares deeply about those in his community that are in need. Oconee County is lucky to witness his incredible feats on the football field, but his work off the field is truly awe-inspiring.
